2012 is off to a good start, and I’m getting ready to go on tour in Europe. I’m pleased to welcome my new assistant Nisreen, who started dancing with me in NYC many moons ago, and will be back in the Big Apple very shortly! For more about Nisreen, scroll down.
For those who want to reach me over the next few weeks for arrangements for shop purchases, upcoming workshops or sponsorship inquiries, you can email Nisreen at firstname.lastname@example.org and she’ll be happy to help directly or to pass the word along to me. Shop orders fulfillment may be delayed for about a week after this Monday, so if you are thinking of ordering something, do it today!
Hope your year is also going well, and I hope to see you at one of these upcoming events if I’m in your part of the world.
Mailing List Updates
This newsletter goes to everyone on my list and has international as well as national and local event info; I send out fewer of these (about one per month). If you are not in the New York metro area and only want main newsletters like this one, just say so! We’ll be happy to update you. And of course, you can unsubscribe or change your preferences at any time.
Upcoming NYC Events
OUTI OF CAIRO EGYPTIAN DANCE TECHNIQUE BOOT CAMP
Outi, a delightful, clear and knowledgeable teacher of Egyptian dance, comes to us from Cairo, where she has lived and worked since 2005. She is killer on technique, and was a big hit when she taught in NYC in 2008. We are thrilled to have her back for some “Outi Boot Camp!” Outi and workshop participants will also perform in two different shows on Sunday, January 22, and Wednesday, January 25.
SAVE THE DATE – NYC REDA TECHNIQUE INTENSIVE
Ranya’s only teaching weekend in town this winter! Ranya will teach workshops on Reda technique, combinations, and choreography creation (including how to adapt Reda style to your own choreographies–for dancers and dance teachers!) on Saturday, February 18, 3:30-6:30pm, and Sunday, February 19, 11am-3pm at 440 Studios, 440 Lafayette Street, just below Astor Place in the East Village. More details to come in the next newsletter or for the NYC workshop info email list.
A show at the Lafayette Grill with Scott Wilson’s band Efendi is planned for Sunday, February 19. Performance slots will be available for workshop participants. Ranya will also be able to teach lessons on Monday, Feb. 20, Presidents Day.
Online Baladi Coaching Group
Details are now available for online baladi coaching! Click here to learn more. A small group of people per class will call in together to a conference call line (check with us for inexpensive call options if calling internationally), watch each other’s videos, and get personalized feedback from Ranya. This will be a fee-based class, with attention to your needs and issues – like a long-distance semi-private lesson and study session in one. Here’s what participants in the pilot session we did in November are saying: “It was so good to spend some time with other dancers that are serious and thoughtful about what they are doing.” “I think that this is a terrific idea and makes high quality dance training available to those of us who aren’t surrounded by experts in easy (affordable) traveling distance.”
We are currently working out the scheduling for this series around Ranya’s complex travel schedule. If you are interested in joining, please send e-mail to email@example.com with Baladi Coaching Group in the subject heading. Join the Ranya Renee Baladi Video Study Group on Facebook to get updates on scheduling and plans.
